      Hi, Steve.
Do you have any tips or tricks in turning the fetus into the neutral position when measuring nuchal translucency?
If the baby is very active, what can I do to make it still?

      Oh my !

If only I had a solution for this problem.

There is not much you can do to get the little munchkin to behave in the way you wish.

I actually quite like a mobile foetus as you always feel that at any moment it will give you the position you need. My pet hate is a lazy foetus in a bad position.

I will try bladder emptying, refilling, walking the mum around, transvaginal scanning and keep my fingers crossed.

If the foetus is lazy and in a bad position some sugary drink for mum might help.

The main thing is to be ready to pounce when it does roll over and have your machine set up ready to go immediately.

If the fetus is in a good position at the beginning of the examination I don’t do a grid or anything else, I just get the important NT, nasal bone and CRL done immediately.

I do the same with the cardiac views in an anatomy scan setting.

In obstetrics I think it is OK to be a bit opportunistic and if the foetus gives you a great view, take it and tick it off your list.

It is one examination I am less routine about in the order I take the images.

Nothing worse that a 12 week foetus laying flat on its back in a perfect position while you do a grid and then it rolls over and refuses to roll back.

Last but not least, trust the ultrasound gods, be nice to ultrasound and the babies will be nice to you !

      Steve.

      Thank you very much, Steve.
I love that last but not least advice from you. I will definitely keep my fingers crossed and pray to the ultrasound gods while I try all other tricks.
